FORGETFUL ME - Tromas the Toxic Avenger 4 is tonight Sat. April 20th at 8PM in the Ithaca College Park Auditorium. There is a $5 charge for tickets which you can pick up at the door.

BAD IDEA OF THE DAY - From my good friend Derek Alexander, " 'DUDE,' HAVE YOU SEEN MY SEQUEL? Just when you think that you've seen everything, along comes a sequel to Dude, Where's My Car? Fox announced today that they've signed the two main Dudes, Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott for a sequel, Seriously Dude, Where's My Car?"

"While the "plot" is being secretly guarded, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Jesse and Chester score another psychedelic stash and awake one morning, after a night of heavy partying, with little recollection of the prior night and more importantly, without any clue where they parked their car." - I don't need to comment on this, it speaks for itself.

ITHACA TODAY - If you are in Ithaca tonight and want some good laughs and chance to listen to some twisted music I suggest you check out Park Aud. Tonight the IC Comedy Club is showing Thomas The Toxic Avenger 4 and the Blinded By Pink is playing live! It should be an interesting night. Check it out if can.

QUOTE OF THE DAY - "So, then, to every man his chance -- to every man, regardless of his birth, his shining golden opportunity -- to every man his right to live, to work, to be himself, to become whatever his manhood and his vision can combine to make him -- this, seeker, is the promise of America."
- Thomas Wolfe

Hands down Wolfe is one of the best authors alive today. Next to perhaps only Rushdi none are higher regarded. If you haven't read Wolfe I suggest you start with "The Bonfire of the Vanities",

DRAGON'S RULE - Only from someone who worked on The X-Files, Rob Bowman, could the idea of a post-apocalyptic world filled with Dragons and the few humanrs left fighting them be breed. On July 12 Mattew McConaughey and Touchstone Pictures is treating us to Reign Of Fire. The trailer looks very good. It presents the story not as an all out action film but as a fantasy story of men against beast. And boy does it sound orginal. The poster conveys a sense of a dark fantasy world full of fire breating dragons. And as I sit here thinking about it I can't think of many solid films involving that creature of such literary lore, the Dragon. Sean Connery voiced a dragon a few years back in Dragonheart, which was subpar and there's the Dragon of the Lonely Mountain in The Hobbit but there's not much else that sticks out in my mind. Perhaps the Dragon has finally found a vehicle for him.

BLAKE BUSTED - The LAPD finally arrested actor Robert Blake for killing his wife tonight. Who's next, Gary Condit or O.J.?

TRAGEDY OF DEMOCRACY - Democrats in the Senate do not want a vote on for providing you cheaper gas, more oil and more energy.. They have filibusted the billl away. The point of conflict was Drilling in ANWAR. I've written about this subject many times and when 70% of Alaskans and a 47% of American do as opposed to 30% who don't logic has gone out the window. This is a sad, pathetic day for Senate Democrats. They do no want this bill to come to a vote because they fear either that it will pass or they will have on their record a vote against it. When gas prices continue to soar this summer they do no want their constiuents to remember they did nothing about it come the November elections.
"The president will continue to fight for the tens of thousands of jobs that are created by opening ANWR, as well as — more importantly — for the need for America to be able to achieve more energy independence that would result from opening ANWR," Ari Fleischer stated at his press conference today. Let us hope Bush sticks to his guns on this one. We have here an issue that is not important politically but important for all our futures. Energy Security is something this country hasn't had in 30 years. Can you imagine not having to worry so much about the Middle East everyday because one flare up can send gas prices soaring? Can you imagine American Companies pulling out of the Arab states, much to their satisfaction, so they can pursue oil resources at home and in the process create thousands upon thousands of new jobs. The Unions of America are for it. I hope they hold this action by the Democrats against them come the fall. I'm not too hopeful on that front. Someday maybe gas prices will less, home heating oil will be cheaper and we can have Senators with the guts to take a stand.

MORE NEW SITES - Deathes come in threes and so do new websites. My friend and occasional mentor Ed Havens has got a new look to his film news, rumour and review site FilmJerk.com. Ed is one of the finest writers I know. He has an unparrelled sense of humor mixed with an irrelevant and often mystifing knowledge of all things movie related.
Today The Filmjerk has a reviw of Ethan Hawke's new movie Chelsea Walls and has posted a review of Ben Affleck's The Sum of All Fears. His finance also has a very humourous review of Bogdanovich's The Cat's Meow.
P.S. - If your looking for Whale Porn this is a great site for it.

THEY SHOULD HAVE LISTENED - The Red Wings lost to Vancouver tonight in overtime 4-3. They now have lost the home ice advantage and absolutely have to win on Friday. If not we are looking at one of the biggest upsets in NHL Playoff History.

BRAVES PLAY THE DAY - Braves 2 Mets 1 The Braves pulled out a close but costly win in Flushing, NY today. Four-time Cy Young Award Winner Greg Maddux left the game after just nine pitches. It appears he has reinjured his hip, the same injury that caused him to miss his first two starts earlier this year. Thankfully, Kevin Millwood came in in relief and pitched 4 and 2/3rd's scoreless baseball. Millwood is on top of his game so if the Braves can get Maddux back and fully healty they are ready to rock. Ironic, ain't it, that Millwood gets healthy, pitches superbly again but Maddux gets hurt. For the Braves though Maddux is the key. How bad is the injury? Can he recover fully or will the injury nag him all year? I think the Braves need to give him all the time he needs to rest his hip. It's only the middle of April, there are a lot of games left to play. If Maddux needs a month to be 100% grant him that. When he comes back at full strength the Braves will have a solid three in Maddux, Glavine and Millwood.

THE ICE IS HOT IN APRIL - The NHL playoffs start today and there is only one question that needs to be answered: Will anyone beat the Detroit Red Wings? Not many people noticed that the Red Wings had one of the best seasons in NHL or sports history. They ran rough shot through the league. They had their conference’s #1 seed locked up a month before the seasons end. Detroit is a team of experienced superstars who won back to back cups just three years ago. This year they added the best goaltender in the game, Dominic Hasek, and one of the games greatest (albeit a bit past his prime) Brett Hull. My thoughts on the playoffs are if Detroit gets past the first round they are home free.
It is in that first round that they play the red hot Vancouver Canucks. It can be argued that no one is playing better hockey then the pride of Western Canada. However the fact that there recent hot streak only landed them the 8th and final Western Conference Playoff spot is clear indication of their struggles earlier in the year. But as of right now they are clicking on all cylinders. This is the exactly the kind of team that the juggernaut Red Wings might overlook in a first round match-up. Detroit needs to be on their guard and play as if it was for the Stanley Cup now in order to have a chance to hoist it later. If they succeed and triumph over Vancouver the Cup is as much as theirs. I'll have more on the playoffs as they develop.

NEW YEAR, SAME PROBLEMS - Orioles 4 Yankees 3 I always enjoy a good laugh at the Yankees, but tonight was especially hearty. Ramiro Mendoza relieved Clemens in the 8th inning and blew the lead and the game. Didn't the Yankees play this song already? I believe the verses involved Jay Witasick and Mark Wohlers, both of whom the Yankees traded great prospects for last year to get some relief pitching help. Neither pitcher is with the team anymore. And now it appears the Yankees may have the same problem all over again! Not to worry I'm sure, The Boss will probably open the wallet a little more and trade for a few more RP's if necessary. A 110 million dollar payroll just isn't enough for him.

NEW SITES ALL AROUND - My alltime favorite baseball columnist has a new site. No one, short of Bill James, writes more fluidly and intelligently about baseball then Rob Neyer. The new site demonstrates those qualities beautifully. ESPN.com: MLB - Rob Neyer

BRAVES UPDATE - Mets 3 Braves 1Furcal commits 2 errors and goes 0 for 4 leaving the 3 runners on base...guess how many runs the Braves could have used to win the game? Furcal obviously needs time off. Mark Derosa is hitting everything right now (.467 AVG/1.033OPS) and plays a solid short. He has to be better then Furcal's 7 errors so far this year. "I'm not frustrated," Furcal told the Athens Banner-Herald. "I'm going to get 500 to 600 at-bats this season. But I'm going to try and stay more relaxed." Ridding the bench for a week will help him relax plenty.

DOES ANYONE ON THE SUPREME COURT HAVE CHILDREN? - If engaging in sex with a minor is illegal then why is engaging in sex with a minor and taking pictures of it for the internet not? It seems to me the latter is worse and should be the one that is illegal, but not according to today's ruling by the US Supreme Court. Justice Kennedy, who wrote the majority's opinion, says that children caught up in sex is an artistic outlet. "Teen-age sexual activity and the sexual abuse of children have inspired countless literary works. William Shakespeare created the most famous pair of teen-age lovers, one of whom is just 13," Kennedy wrote, referring to "Romeo and Juliet." Yeah, right. I think Justice Kennedy needs to go to any internet search engine and type in '13 year old teen-age lovers' and see what he gets as Shakespearian work. It's funny that he goes back 400 years to get a feaseable example of sex with minors, if you can consider the scenes in R+J that.

THANKS JOE - The letter I sent to Jospeh J. Sabia regarding his column on the IC Republicans is reprinted in his column - Moderates and Conservatives: Can't we all just get along? No. Two notes: a) I am not a columnist for The Ithacan and b) Mr. Sabia is very right.

BRAVES RECAP - Mets 7 Braves 6 It looked like a freak game tonight. Damian Moss pitched very well but Pizzia and Alfonso got some solid knocks off him in the 7th, then Remlinger comes in and gives up his first hit of the year and the game is tied. Hammond was great in relief eventhough he did get the loss. You cannot ak your relievers to get out after out on the road in extra innings (and the Braves have played four extra inning games this week!). It did look like the Braves O shut it down after about the 5th innning. I can't take the extra inning nervousness anymore. These Rolaids don't taste like candy ya know? Glavine pitches tomorrow; things are looking up in that respect.

THIRTY LONG YEARS - Congrats to my parents for making it this long at their marriage. If the 25th is sliver and the 50th is golden, what is the 30th? The bronze? The copper? The steel? Or howabout, the I can't imagine my parents being older then I have ever imagined myself being anniversary? Eitherway...Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad.

OH WAITER, ONE ORDER OF CROW FOR MR. BARKLEY - In light of Tiger's win today it occurs to me that no one has mentioned Charles Barkley's comments from last month's Sports Illustrated in which he said the changes at Augusta National were an obvious attempt to prevent Tiger Woods from winning again. Barkley said that the powers who run Augusta did not want a Black Man winning there. They must be the stupidest racists ever. Looks like it only hepled Tiger and hurt all his closest competitors. If Barkley was a man he would apologize for calling the organizors at Augusta racists and start looking for some real problems in sports. He can start with Bud Selig's wallet.

WHERE'S RICKEY? - Rickey Henderson is twice as old as Rafeal Furcal but he's three times the ball player. You want to know why the Atlanta Braves are struggling at 6-7 and will continue to have problems all year? Ok so maybe you don't but baseball is my favorite sport and the Braves my favorite teams so...the reason they are struggling: Rafeal Furcal. Yes the man who just six months ago was 21 and is now 23 ny a twist of updated immigration papers is pulling down the mighty Braves machine. With an OBP of just .250 he is not getting the job done from the lead-off spot. The #2 man in the lineup Andruw Jones isn't helping either. Jones is getting on-base at a respetable .344 clip but hitting a miserable .160. His thirteen walks are the only thing that's saved him but then again 3 of them came in one game against the Phillies last week. If the Braves #1 and 2 hitters can't start getting on base for Chipper Jones and Gary Sheffiald the Braves maybe out of this thing sooner then the LCS.

YOU WON'T BELIEVE YOUR EARS - Check out this quote from the Cornell Press:

"When I saw that flyer, I read it as ‘Bay Buchanan is here to hang me.’…Regardless, the Constitution is irrelevant on this campus. We are [a] private [college]. We do not go by that here.” - Self-described IC "radical feminist" student.

I'm going to print this quote out and look at it whenever I need a good laugh. I've removed the name of the feminist because I don't want to embrass her any further (though I am greatly urged to do so.) You can read the full article HERE. God, I wish we had writers and reporters like Joseph J. Sabia at Ithaca College.

WELCOME TO MY BLOG - A great thanks to John Tabin for pointing me to this tool. Thanks bud, miss you much.
