JOHN TABIN DESTROYS RYAN VOORIS - That is in the all important catergory of Google searchs. According to googlefight.com Tabin has 1,013 more results then me. Senorweird is just as lucky but by only 48 sites. In Good vs. Evil, good wins. Capitalism destorys socialism as does freedom over tryanny and in the all important "The Facer" vs. "Harry Knowles," bout, Knowles wins by over 14,000 (he does have a slight weight advantage).

BASEBALL PICKS - I usually tend to think it's pompous and boring when "experts" try to make picks on who's going to win what and how something is going to turn out. As a result I almost universally stay away from making such uninformed claims. But today I'm going to make an exception, I'm going to predicte the baseball playoffs.

Why? Because I watch baseball everyday, I read about it everyday and it fills my soul with such overwhelming joy I can hardly live without it. I like to think I know what I'm talking about and judging about some of the email I get when I write about baseball some readers of this website also think I do. So here are my quick MLB Playoff picks:

NL Division Series
Bravers over Giants in 4: I usually like to pick against my favorite team, the Braves, because I'm always so sure they are going to blow it. But this year they seem to have things pretty well together. I'll take them over the Giants who don't have any solid staring pitchers.
Cardinels over Diamonbacks in 4: Schilling has struggeled, Counsel is gone, Gonzalez is gone and Tony Womack is still hitting at the top of the D'backs lineup...nuff said.

AL Division Series
Yankees over Angels in 4: The Yankees do near everything right (Why is Soriano hitting lead off?), the Angels do almost nothing right (8m a year to Darin Erstad) and get by on sure grit. Their grit will get them one win in this series if they have some luck too.
A's over Twins in 3 - Now the A's, they do do everything right. They simple go out and do whatyou need to win in todays game (walk, get on base, hit HR's, have 3 solid starters, never bunt, never hit & run and have fun). The Twins are a great story but they don't have the pitching or plate patience to match Oakland.

As for the League Championship and World Series I'll deal with them when we get there but if, by some miracle, my currect picks panned out I would pick:

NLCS
Braves over Cardinels in 6

ALCS
A's over Yankees in 4

World Series
A's over Braves in 5

Now I know there's no way it's going to come down like that. Let there be no doubt; these picks (or the picks of just about any "Joe" on any subject - most of all sports) are pompous, silly and completely worthless. I really don't know why I'm even bothering to make these picks at all. I guess it's because of that rare chance things do work out as I have predicted them (they won't) and then I can say, "Hey look... I'm real smart, yall!" How sad.

CHILLS BROTHER, I'VE GOT CHILLS - Said chills are delivered by viewing the brand new full trailer to "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers". The new trailer will appear in front of prints of "Red Dragon" starting this weekend. The trailer is now available on the internet and is a breathtaking three minutes long. I can't wait for seventy-eight days to pass until December the 18th.

Parts of the new trailer leave me a little puzzled though. Mainly because it appears they have drastically changed the story line of the second book. Elrond, the legendary elf, does not appear in Tolkien's version of "The Two Towers" and in Book 1 & 3 he is presented as a wise, fatherly figure, akin to Gandalf. Here we have a doom and gloom Elrond who talks of an "end of the alliance between Men and Elves." This is not from the book at all, that I know off. Now I know that the Arwen/Aragorn love story was created up for the movie but it looks to be taking some kind of strange love triangle twist here. Very strange indeed. But all those complaints represent perhaps 2% of my feeling towards "The Two Towers." The other 98% can't wait for those seventy-eight days to pass on by.
