TWO DAYS LATE - Well I hope everybody had a good and wonderful Christmas. I know I certainly had a unique one. From hearing my sister ask, "Is there a war going on or something," to a pain in the neck sore thoart that would not go away it was certainly one to remember. But I hope everybody reading this had a happy and healthy Christmas...now it's onto New Years Eve!
And here's a special treat for a few fans of the website who have been wishing to see the posting of an old satire I wrote concerning my co-workers in the theater industry. It's entitled, "As the Popcorn Pops." Part I Part II Part III
Enjoy!

FACER COPIES ME - Just a few hours after I posted the below comments regarding the horrible second weekend of Star Trek Nemesis, then did The Facer pick up on the story and make his own comments. Facer is much better at the deconstruction of Star Trek then I am. His almost lethal inside knowledge of the franchise almost makes one wonder if he was himself once a part of it. No matter though, he makes excellent points concerning the fall of Star Trek.
Did anyone else notice that Nemesis placed behind "The Hot Chick" in it's second week? How pathetic. Patrick Stewart seems to have seen these grosses and done a flip-flop on his dedication to the series as the Facer points outs, "...last week Stweart was quoted as saying, ''[Nemesis] re-invigorated my feelings about Star Trek. If we have another story written that well, with that much enthusiasm and imagination, I'd consider doing another.'' A mere three days later, Stewart reversed the comment completely, now saying, "All of us are very sensitive about not wanting to outstay our welcome. I think the events of this film are very appropriate as a sort of closure for Next Generation." One assumes by "events" Stewart means "box office receipts."
Make sure you check out Facer's excellent anaylsis of this total debacle. I can't remember a time when I saw a film fall 76% percent in it's second week at the Box Office. Such happenings are unheard of, even for front-loaded cult flicks like Star Trek when fans are expected to come out for the first weekend.
It's all a very pathetic happening and it appears clear now that Paramount may have no option but to dump the Trek series or else do some serious overhaling. Facer and I agree that the first step must be to get rid of Rick Berman, the cancer on Trek that has been gestating since the early 1990's and that is now, as most fans have known all alone, coming to full light with the debacle of Nemesis. Here's an idea...put Facer in control. He certainly can't screw the thing up anymore.
